From acorns to oak trees

It’s been a busy but exciting week.  About four months ago I volunteered to do a  4-week [12 hours] session on self-leadership.   Mastering self-leadership is the foundation of true leadership.  According to Plato –  “The first and best victory is to conquer self…”

My volunteer assignment is to a group of people who have  experienced the rougher edges of society; through choice, and through circumstances where choice itself was very limited.  Not my typical class.

I had the privilege to meet  my group for the first time last Tuesday night.  It was a rich and engaging time of interaction.   During the entire evening I felt that I was not instructing[content] but planting seeds of hope and transformation; planting acorns that someday would grow into oak trees.

I was reminded of the quote on my colleague’s office door: “Don’t strive to make a living, strive to make a difference.”

I am looking forward to next Tuesday evening!
