Lord of Joy

Mountain Ash Splendour

Every Christmas season, for the past 10+ years, I have written a song about the Christmas story -the birth of that Baby in a manger- God invading human history. Inspiration to write has come from a variety of sources. Last Sunday’s advent readings was one of those unexpected sources.

The kids are reading through the Advent lessons. This past Sunday was the lesson on joy. It is a very special privilege to hear the readings through the lips of little children. One of the passages was from the Old Testament book of Nehemiah [8:10] “… Do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” In the excitement of the moment, the young lad reading the Scripture said – the Lord of the joy is your strength.

An error in reading? Yes, but powerful truth: the Lord is the Lord of Joy. He is the source and giver of joy. I could feel the song stirring in my spirit. Here are the words and a simple recording of that song.

    Lord of Joy

 1.  Lord of joy

     Born in a manger,

     Angels proclaimed your wonderous birth.

     Lord of Joy

Emmanuel,

Humbly you came to bring peace to the Earth

CHORUS

Nowell, Nowell!

The angels are singing.

The heavens resound with their anthems of praise!

Nowell, Nowell!

Earth joins the chorus,

Sing we Nowell, for the Saviour has come!

 2. Lord of Joy

Hope of the nations,

Your light is our beacon; your love gives us life.

Lord of Joy

Saviour forever,

Frost Flowers

Through all our struggles, your joy is our strength.

This Christmas season and in 2018, may you experience the presence of the Lord of joy and the infusion of His joy in your every circumstance.

Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad.
