I have been on a bit of a sabbatical; waiting for “inspiration to write”. Not much gets done while you wait to be zapped. Some times we just have to trudge on until “the light breaks through” always bearing in mind that the journey is not a sprint but a marathon.
A few thoughts from the “sabbatical:
- Don’t let short term circumstances distract us from our long term vision.
- We need to be clear on what is our long term vision; that light that needs to shine through the fog of our present circumstances.
- I am encouraged and reminded to keep on musing, writing and singing. People building, impact and influence, that’s what it’s all about.
Some closing words from James O’Toole [Values-Based Leadership] that speaks to the need for long term focus: “Successful completion of one’s short-term mission is not the clearest sign of effective leadership, but lifelong consistency of high moral purpose is.”
